What is an Breast Lift?
A breast lift which is also known as a mastopexy, is a surgical procedure performed by one of our plastic surgeons to change the shape and lift of the breast. During a breast lift, the excess skin is removed and the breast tissue is reshaped to raise your breasts.
A breast lift won't significantly change the size of your breasts but it can be done in combination with a breast augmentation or breast reduction.
Who is an Ideal Candidate for Breast Lifts?
Your breasts do not stay put as you get older. The more that our bodies go through—the more that we use our bodies to live—the more you lose elasticity in your breasts as well as firmness. Often, these changes happen over an extended period of time, but they can also be a result of specific life events.
Pregnancy: The ligaments that support your breasts stretch during pregnancy to accommodate their getting fuller and heavier. That stretch can contribute to sagging even after pregnancy.
Weight Fluctuations: Weight changes can also cause the skin of your breast to stretch and, over time, lose its elasticity.
Gravity: It can be difficult to swallow, but gravity itself is a powerful tool at making your breasts sag. Just like pregnancy, gravity can stretch at the ligaments and cause sagging.
Whare are the Benefits of Breast Lifts?
The benefit, of course, is that the breast lift surgery can stop the sagging as well as raise the position of the nipples and the areolae. In addition to this, the size of the areolae can be reduced to keep them proportionate to the size of the newly shaped breasts.
